Two horses auctioned by the VDL Stud champion in the USA
WELLINGTON — The WEF Sport Horse Auction of the VDL Stud has delivered both the champion of the five and seven year olds in the USA. Lovely Boy (by Campbell VDL x Arezzo VDL), only sold in the auction two weeks ago, and Jillz (by Denzel van het Meulenhof x Calvinos) both won.
Lovely Boy was auctioned in Wellington in early March for $ 310,000. Ariel Grange, the new owner of the talented horse, has it brought out by Irish rider Daniel Coyle. Last Friday, the new combination won the Developing Jumper Series for five-year-old show jumpers with a double clear round and the fastest time.
The final for the seven-year-olds was won by Jillz and rider Alex Matz. Jillz also received an additional prize, the Champion Equine Insurance Jumper Style Award. Jillz was sold in last year’s WEF Sport Horse Auction.
Also VDL Eclipse (Emerald van’t Ruytershof x Monte Bellini) became 7th and 5th in the 6‑years-old class. VDL Quickthago (Quickly de Kreisker x Numero Uno) became 5th in the same 6‑years-old class.
“Janko Van De Lageweg’s program VDL Stud and all of his horses are really, really top end,” continued Grange continued. “I’ve seen the stallions and his handlers. Everything is very well done. The sport horse coming here fits the atmosphere really well. I have confidence that the horses in the auction are brought up properly for the most important years when they’re growing and that they get all the basics done right.”
